By Tom Stanton Apr 28, 2025 | 1:20 PM

A 14-year-old was among four people taken into custody following reports of vehicles being broken into early Saturday morning.  LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers were called to N. 91st and Cedar Cover Road around 5:30 a.m. for reports of two people breaking into vehicles and a black F250 pickup with no headlights on following them.

“Officers located the truck and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle drove off, ignoring several officer attempts to stop it< Thomas says.  “Officers determined three vehicles in the neighborhood had been entered.”

The pickup was later found the truck still running with flat tires near 59th Street and Aylesworth Avenue, about three miles away. Thomas says three guns were also recovered from the vehicle. The pickup and guns were determined to be stolen.  During a search of the area, Thomas says officers saw two males running from a backyard and they took both into custody.

A 14-year-old was referred and booked at the Youth Services Center for theft by receiving $5,000 or more, failing to obey lawful order of a police officer and attempted theft by unlawful taking up to $500.

A 18-year-old was booked at the Lancaster County Jail for the same charges.  During a further search of the area, Thomas says officers found two more individuals leaving a shed in a nearby backyard and took them into custody.  “Alcohol and a handgun were located in a backpack in their possession and marijuana was found inside the shed.”

19-year-old Owen Kazena and 20-year-old Wyatt Novak were cited and booked at the Lancaster County Jail for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, minor in possession and criminal trespass.
