Nebraska baseball scored the first five runs of the game and never looked back en route to a 7-2 win at Maryland Saturday. The victory evened the Big Ten series at one game a piece heading into tomorrow’s series finale.
Hogan Helligso got the Cornhuskers on the board with an RBI single to center in the second. Then in the fourth, Case Sanderson drove in Dylan Carey with an RBI double to right field. In the top of the fifth, Cayden Brumbaugh drove in Robbie Bolin with a double to right field. The next hitter, Max Buettenback, followed with a double to left to score Brumbaugh and push the lead to 4-0. Later in the inning, Buettenback scored on a single to right by Sanderson.
Maryland scored in the bottom of the seventh, only to be answered in the top of the eighth by an RBI single by Brumbaugh. The Terps tallied a run in the bottom of the eighth, but with two outs in the ninth, Sanderson homered to grow the lead to five.
Ty Horn (2-4) earned the win for Nebraska, throwing six shutout innings while allowing six hits and two walks while striking out five. Sanderson led the offense, hitting 3-for-3 with three RBI, a double and a home run. Brumbaugh was also 3-for-3 with two RBI, a double and two walks. Joey McMannis (1-2) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 4.2 innings.
