Continuing their tradition of giving back to the community, Lincoln’s very own daVinci’s Italian restaurant will serve their 40th annual free Easter dinner this Sunday, April 20.
This long-running tradition began in 1985, seven years after Pastor Kal Knudson founded the restaurant — originally called Pontillo’s Pizzeria — in 1978. It was later renamed daVinci’s.
“They wanted to be closed on Easter, but also wanted to give back to the community,” Joe Armstrong, President and COO of daVinci’s, told KLIN News.
This year’s feast will continue this year exclusively at their 11th and “G” Street location, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Other daVinci’s locations will be closed for the holiday.
Food offerings of pasta, pizza, and garlic cheese rolls will be completely free to guests. In addition, members of the community will donate cupcakes. Armstrong says about 50-60 volunteers make the event possible.
“It’s a festive environment. People just really enjoy coming together. It’s also an opportunity to serve members of our community who are maybe less fortunate finically or don’t have friends and family to meet with on Easter,” said Armstrong. “We expect to serve 800-1,000 people that day.”
