‘Monster Jam’ Coming to Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena on April 18-19

Three high octane ‘Monster Jam’ shows are set for this weekend, April 18-19, at Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Attendees will behold a fleet of 12,000-pound trucks racing, performing death-defying stunts like two-wheel stands, and soaring through the air in what organizers say is an unscripted and unforgettable event.

Its not just fanfare, however. Over the two days, drivers will be competing for the crown in the “Arena Championship Series East.”

Blake Granger, driver of Monster Mutt Dalmatian, told KLIN News they’ll be tearing up dirt in four categories: Racing, Skills, Donuts, and (everyone’s favorite, he says), Freestyle. Fans will be right in the middle of the action, helping to crown the Event Champion as they get to score the drivers in real time based on their skills, stunts, and saves.

“With Monster Jam being around for over 30 years, the sport has grown to a level that probably not many have expected,” said Granger. “We have a point system… At the end of every event, we crown an overall event champion. We take those points, add them up, and continue building them throughout the entire season. At the end of the season, whoever has the most points sitting in first place gets an automatic bid to the World Finals.”

“That’s our goal as athletes and drivers. That’s our Super Bowl. We all want to be there,” he added.

Trucks coming to Lincoln: Grave Digger, ThunderROARus, El Toro Loco, Megalodon, Monster Mutt Dalmatian, Just Get-Er-Done, Raminator, and Rammunition.

Granger assures spectators, while it may seem perilous, drivers are exceedingly safe while doing stunts. Or as the 35-year-old Monster Mutt Dalmatian pilot put it: “With age, comes the cage.”

“With a roll cage around me, I’m 100% safe. I’ve never been hurt. We have the best safety equipment in the world, similar to NASCAR,” Granger described. “But because of how safe you are, it pushes you to go even crazier, even bigger, even wilder… It’s like good ol’ wooden roller coasters that just beats you up the whole time. It’s a blast while you’re doing it.”

The weekend will feature 3 shows. There will be one showing Friday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday will feature ‘Monster Jam Pit Party’ from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., where families can get up close and personal with these massive trucks, snap a selfie, meet their favorite drivers, and collect autographs. Then individual truck shows at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
