Huskers rally to salvage final game at Iowa

By Nate Rohr Apr 13, 2025 | 10:54 PM

Two runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth led Nebraska baseball to a 6-4 win over Iowa Sunday in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes had already won the first two games of the series before the Cornhuskers responded on Sunday by taking the last game of the set.

Iowa led 1-0 through two innings. But in the third, Joshua Overbeek homered to tie the game. Then in the fourth, Tyler Stone and Dylan Carey both homered to give Nebraska a 3-1 advantage. Iowa tied the game with two in the bottom of the fourth, then took the lead with a run in the seventh. But in the top of the eighth, Max Buettenback ripped an RBI double down the leftfield line to tie the game at four. Later in the inning, a run scored on an error to give the Hawkeyes the lead. Then in the ninth, an RBI single by Buettenback gave the Huskers some breathing room, and Nebraska took it from there to victory.

Casey Daiss (1-0) earned the win, allowing one unearned run in 1.1 innings pitched. Luke Broderick picked up his seventh save after an inning and a third of shutout, no-hit ball. Daniel Wright (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) in 1.1 innings of relieft.

Buettenback and Overbeek were both 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Huskers’ offense.

Nebraska is back in action Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Creighton. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on KLIN.
