The Nebraska Board of Regents approved the renaming of Husker Volleyball’s home arena as John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Cook announced his retirement as head coach after a 25-year tenure that ranks as one of the most successful in Nebraska Athletics and volleyball history. His .834 winning percentage as a coach at NU and Wisconsin ranks fifth in Division I volleyball history. He led the Cornhuskers to four national championships, 12 NCAA semifinals and 14 conference championships.
As part of the renaming, a bronze sculpture of Cook will be erected on the north side of the arena. Nebraska native George Lundeen has been commissioned to produce the statue.
While the arena will be renamed for Cook, the court inside of the arena will retain its moniker as Terry Pettit Court, in honor of the Huskers’ first national championship coach. Additionally, Bob Devaney’s name will remain on the overall sports complex, including the arena, natatorium and indoor track.
