Capital Humane Society Providing Free Pet Tags

By Tom Stanton Apr 7, 2025 | 2:42 PM

The Capital Humane Society is taking the lost out of Lost and Found through the “Put a Tag On ‘Em” campaign.  “Our goal with this is to get ID tags on as many pets as possible,” says executive director Matt Madcharo.  “Hopefully more lost pets will be reunited with their families in a quick manner.”

Madcharo says they now have a pet tag engraving machine at their Admissions and Assessment Center Park Blvd.  He says getting a free ID tag is a small step that can make a big difference in the number of lost pets coming into their shelter.

He says the number of lost dogs being reclaimed has steadily declined over the last five years. “Between 2019 and 2024, there was a staggering 14 percent decrease in reclaims at Capital Humane Society.”

You can get your free pet ID tag during open business hours Monday-Friday 11:00am-6:00pm and Saturday-Sunday 12:00pm-4:00pm.   Madcharo also encourages pet owners to get their pets microchipped.
