Two Lincoln Brothers Scammed Out of $1.3 Million

By Tom Stanton Apr 4, 2025 | 10:37 AM

Lincoln Police received a report on Wednesday of an online fraud where two brothers from Lincoln had lost a total of more than $1.36 million in an online trading scam.  LPD says the men are 76 and 77-years-old.

“The scheme began in November 2024 where the scammer claimed to invest the money into stocks and crypto currency online,” LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says.  The platform turned out to be fraudulent.

“The victims discovered the fraud when the stock market dropped, and they attempted to withdraw some money from the fake accounts,” Thomas says. “We encourage everyone to exercise extreme caution when investing money online, especially with people or platforms you do not know.”

Thomas says if you have a loved one you are concerned about please talk to them about internet scams.  You can learn more about various forms of elder fraud through the FBI, including
how to file an IC3 form with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
