A back-and-forth, high-scoring game went to Omaha as the Mavericks defeated Nebraska baseball, 11-9, Wednesday night at Tal Anderson Field in Omaha.
Omaha took a 2-0 lead in the first, only to see the Huskers score four straight runs, all driven in by Max Buettenback. After Buettenback hit a three-run home run in the second, he hit a sacrifice fly in the third. The Mavs scored two in the third to tie it, but the Cornhuskers surged for five runs in the fourth, leading 9-4.
But then Omaha started chipping away. Henry Zipay hit a three-run triple in the fifth, followed by sacrifice flies by Tyler Bishop in the fifth and sixth to tie the game at nine. Then in the seventh, Drew Borner hit a two-run home run to give the Mavericks the lead.
Borner and Zipay both drove in three runs to lead the Omaha offense. In a losing cause, Case Sanderson was 4-for-6 with an RBI while Buettenback was 3-for-4 with five RBI.
Nebraska is back in action Friday at 6 p.m. at home against Rutgers. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on KLIN.
