April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the Lincoln Police Department will conducting a month long enforcement project. “This enforcement effort will focus on speeding and red light violations, which are two of the most common traffic offenses committed by distracted drivers,” says Public Information Officer Erika Thomas.
Last year officers investigated at least 3,900 crashes where at least one driver was reported to be operating a vehicle in an inattentive, careless, negligent, or erratic manner. “LPD urges drivers to place their phones on “Do Not Disturb” while behind the wheel, stay focused on the road, and obey traffic signals,” Thomas says.
The project is funded by a grant from our partners at the Nebraska Office of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
