The Lincoln Police Department on Monday released results of a traffic enforcement project that ran from March 14 through 17.  Additional officers worked overtime during the weekend preceding Saint Patrick’s Day focusing on impaired driving.

Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says during the project officers wrote 404 traffic citations for a variety of offenses.  “Sixteen were cited for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, two were arrested for a felony DUI due to previous DUI convictions and three cited for their DUI second offense.”

Thomas says one person was cited for driving with a passenger under the age of 16. “Which is an additional charge for those who choose to drive impaired with children in their vehicle.” The enforcement project was funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

“LPD remains committed to reducing impaired driving and urges all motorists to make responsible choices.” Thomas says.  “If you plan to drink, always arrange for a sober ride to keep Lincoln’s roads safe.”
