By Nate Rohr Mar 30, 2025 | 7:57 PM

Nebraska baseball earned its first series win over a top-five foe since 2011 with a 16-7 thrashing of No. 5 Oregon State Sunday at Hawks Field in the rubber game of the non-conference three-game series.

The Beavers (20-6) led the game 3-2 going to the bottom of the fourth inning, when a Will Jesske three-run home run gave the Huskers (12-15) a 5-3 lead. NU tacked on another run on an error that inning. Oregon State took a 7-6 lead with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh.

But then, the Cornhuskers lineup exploded in the bottom of the seventh. Tyler Stone hit a two-run single to give Nebraska the lead. Max Buettenback followed with a pinch-hit, three-run home run to make it 11-7. After a run scored on an error, Ryley Silva drove in a run with a single to right to make it 13-7. Cayden Brumbaugh capped the nine-run inning with a two-run single to left. Hogan Helligso homered in the eighth to make it 16-7. The game was stopped after eight innings due to OSU’s travel plans.

Luke Broderick (2-0) earned the win in relief, allowing an unearned run in 0.2 innings pitched.  Joey Mundt (1-1) took the loss, allowing three earned runs in 0.2 innings pitched. Stone led the Nebraska offense, hitting 3-for-5 with three RBI and a home run. Riley Silva was also 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Huskers. AJ Singer was 3-for-4 in a losing effort for Oregon State.

Nebraska now prepares to face in-state rival Creighton Tuesday night at Hawks Field. First pitch is at 6 p.m., with pregame coverage at 5:30 p.m. on KLIN.
