…RED FLAG WARNING WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM THIS EVENING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR EASTERN NEBRASKA AND PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST IOWA…
The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
Ahead of an approaching low-pressure system today, winds will be out of the southwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. With plenty of available fuel and relative humidity as low as 25 percent any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Near record highs today in the upper 80s are expected. The previous record in Lincoln of 90-degrees was set in 1895.
As the system moves through the area there will be the chance for some severe storms developing with most areas receiving some rain. Much cooler temps are expected over the weekend with showers possible both Saturday and Sunday. High temp Saturday is expected to be in the mid-60s and Sunday in the mid 40s.
