Authorities have arrested a Lincoln man in connection with a January fire that caused significant damage to a rural property, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.
36-year-old Cory Cramm of Lincoln was taken into custody and charged with second-degree arson for allegedly setting fire to a home near Northwest 56th and West Holdrege streets on the morning of Jan. 2. The house was a complete loss and the fire resulted in approximately $350,000 in damages.
Investigators from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln Police Department worked together using various investigative techniques to identify Cramm as the suspect.
“This was a very impressive investigation,” Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said. “The techniques used helped verify that he was the individual who did that.”
Houchin also noted that Cramm is a suspect in multiple other arson cases currently under investigation.
“He is a good one to get off the street,” Houchin said. “It’s very upsetting, the danger he put first responders and rural fire departments in to put that fire out. There was absolutely no reason for him to be doing that.”
No one was inside the structure at the time of the fire, as it was primarily being used for storage, Houchin said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
