Maybe a little home cooking is all Nebraska baseball needed.
After a sputtering 3-6 roadtrip, the Huskers (11-14) returned home to knock off No. 5 Oregon State, 7-3, Friday at Hawks Field in Lincoln. The Cornhuskers ran out to a seven-run lead and pitchers Will Walsh and Drew Christo held down the Beavers (19-5) offense the rest of the way to secure the win, Nebraska’s first against a top-10 foe since Vanderbilt in 2023.
The Huskers drew first blood in the bottom of the third. After Tyler Stone hammered a two-run home run to right, Dylan Carey followed with a home run to left. An RBI single by Rhett Stokes pushed the lead to four in the bottom of the fourth. Carey came through against with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Cael Frost followed with a two-run home run that made it 7-0, Nebraska.
Walsh and Christo made sure those seven runs held up. After Walsh (3-4) allowed just three runs (two earned) in six innings, Christo threw three no-hit, shutout innings to secure the win. Christo earned his first save of the season. Eric Segura took the loss for Oregon State, allowing five earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
Eight of the nine Huskers starters got hits, with Carey setting the pace by going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a home run. Stone, Carey and Frost all drove in two runs each.
Nebraska will seek a series-clinching win Saturday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at Hawks Field, with pregame coverage at 1:30 p.m. on KLIN.
