Former Lincoln Mayor and State Senator Don Wesely passed away unexpectedly this morning in his home. He was 70.
As one of the youngest people ever elected to the Nebraska Legislature, Wesely served for 20 years, championing health care reform, economic development, and investments in public safety. As Lincoln’s 49th mayor, he worked to strengthen Lincoln’s infrastructure, support neighborhood revitalization, and expand opportunities for families and businesses.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird called Wesely a “colleague and friend” saying, “His decades of service reflect his deep devotion to the well-being and success of everyone in our community. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the remarkable contributions he made to our city and state.”
