Lancaster County Engineer Pam Dingman announced Wednesday afternoon that they are putting a halt to snow removal activity in the county due to hazards from the blizzard. “Currently there are multiple county roads with hazardous obstructions including downed power poles and broken power lines which make travel inadvisable,” Dingman says.
She says conditions have gotten worse, especially in the northern part of the county. “We have ceased operations for anything north of ‘O’ Street,” Dingman says. “We have had to call our guys in. We can’t keep equipment on the road, it’s very difficult to see the road.”
Conditions have been reported to the appropriate authorities and the county will re-evaluate conditions this afternoon. Dingman says toad maintenance will resume when the situation is less dangerous. Lancaster County Engineering Department will continue to monitor county roads throughout the duration of the storm to determine maintenance needs.
Dingman encourages everyone to stay off the roads in the county. Anyone with road concerns should contact The Lancaster County Engineering Department at 402-441-7681.
