City of Lincoln Straps In for Overnight Blizzard

By Chase Porter Mar 18, 2025 | 5:03 PM

Snow fighters in Lincoln are gearing up for blizzard conditions to roll through the city Wednesday.

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) says crews will begin patrols at 4 a.m. When conditions allow, crews will apply granular salt, pre-wet with brine before the morning commute. Plowing will begin on emergency, school and bus routes when snow begins to accumulate.

Although, Lincoln Public Schools has announced that classes for Wednesday will be cancelled due to the forecast. All LPS buildings will be closed, and all classes and activities are canceled.

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for the area, in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 19. Wind gusts up to 70 mph with snow accumulation up to 10 inches are possible.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for winter weather driving conditions. Take precautions by stocking vehicles with winter roadside kits that include ice melt, small shovel, flashlight, blankets and handwarmers.

In the event you become stranded in your vehicle, if safe to do so, stay with the vehicle until it can be moved. If it is not safe to stay with your vehicle, call the Lincoln Police Department non-emergency number at 402-441-6000. If you have an emergency, dial 911.

LTU Winter Operations will be issuing updates throughout the storm. For more winter operations information, visit lincoln.ne.gov/snow.

StarTran reminds residents to dress appropriately for outdoor conditions, wait 8 feet back from the bus stop and street to avoid snow or slush spray, wear reflective clothing at night for bus operators to easily see riders at bus stops, and check the RideLNK app for any route updates.
