UCLA baseball came back from a three-run deficit to defeat Nebraska, 5-3, Sunday in Los Angeles. The win wrapped up a three-game Big Ten series sweep for the Bruins (16-4. 5-1 B1G) over the Huskers (7-11, 1-5 B1G) in the second weekend of Big Ten play.
Nebraska took a 2-0 lead in the second when Dylan Carey doubled in two runs. A third inning sacrifice fly by Tyler Stone boosted the lead to 3-0. But the Bruins stormed back with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth. Then in the sixth, Jarrod Hocking homered to give UCLA the lead. Later in the inning, an RBI single by Blake Balsz gave the Bruins an insurance run.
Jack O’Connor (2-0) earned the win in relief for UCLA, allowing one hit and no runs in 0.2 innings pitched. The loss went to Nebraska’s Caleb Clark (0-1), who surrendered two earned runs in 1.1 innings of relief.
Carey led the Huskers’ offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Hocking and Roch Cholowski led the Bruins lineup. Both were 2-for-4 with a home run each. Cholowski added a double.
Nebraska now prepares for a two-game, midweek series at Pepperdine. It starts Tuesday at 5 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 4:30 on KLIN Tuesday afternoon.
