A strong start and good bullpen work allowed Nebraska baseball to finish off a sweep of a two-game midweek series with Wichita State with a 5-4 win Wednesday at Hawks Field in Lincoln.
The Huskers scored four in the first inning. The Shockers chipped away with two runs in the second and one in the fifth inning. But in the bottom of the fifth, Max Buettenback clubbed a home run to boost the lead to 5-3. WSU scored one in the eighth, but drew no closer.
The Nebraska bullpen held off the Wichita State bats. Colin Nowaczyk, Gavin Blachowicz, Jalen Worthley, Drew Christo and Luke Broderick combined to allow two earned runs in seven innings of work. Blachowicz earned the win while Broderick collected the save, his third of the season.
