Freshman Devin Nunez drove in a season-high five runs to help propel Nebraska to a 10-1 win over Wichita State Tuesday at Hawks Field in the Huskers’ first midweek game of the season.
Nunez was 3-for-5 at the plate, with a season-high five RBI. His two-run single in the fourth doubled the Cornhuskers’ lead to 4-0. His RBI groundout in the seventh pushed the lead to five while his two-run single in the eighth punctuated a five-run frame for Nebraska that clinched the victory.
Carson Jasa started on the mound for the Huskers and earned the win, throwing five shutout innings while striking out eight and walking just one. The Nebraska bullpen combined for four innings allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts. Wichita State hitters struck out a total of 14 times.
In addition to Nunez’s big day at the plate, Cayden Brumbaugh and Gabe Swansen each hit a double.
