The investigation continues into Tuesday night’s four alarm fire near 23rd and Y that started in a vacant lumber yard building. LFR crews arrived to find several buildings engulfed in flames. “There was three buildings from the lumber yard, a home, several vehicles, an RV and an outdoor shed on fire,” says LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman.
She says there is considerable damage to the outside of the house, but firefighters were able to prevent flames from getting into the house. Lierman says there were also some propane tanks on the property that exploded during the fire.
She says damage to the home is estimated at $50,000. Damage to the lumber yard buildings is estimated at $40,000. Two residents and their pet were able to safely evacuate. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but Lierman says there have been reports of squatters in the area.
