After wowing judges in her blind audition for Season 27 of NBC’s The Voice, Lincoln native Jadyn Cree Olesen advanced through the battle round Monday night.
The 24-year-old faced off in a duet of “Danny’s Song,” by Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina, with fellow contestant Braxton Garza of Michigan. Both singers were selected to be coached by judge Michael Bublé.
Despite the two competing to impress judges, coach Jonh Legend — who coached her father, season 25 finalist Bryan Olesen — said he enjoyed their harmonies.
“You guys sounded so good together. I love the harmonies during the chorus. Braxton, your tone is really beautiful. I love the richness and texture of your tone. And then, Jayden, your tone is so special. It’s like you’re whispering and you’re powerful at the same time. And it just makes me want to hear more of what you have to offer,” said Legend.
“Jaden, there’s something really special about what you do, and it’s intoxicating watching you,” followed coach Adam Levine of Maroon 5 fame. “I can tell we have a lot of taste in common, so I really regret not turning to you, so I would definitely pick you.”
Country-pop star Kelsea Ballerini agreed with Legends compliments toward Jayden’s soft singing style.
“Jaden, the thing that I love about your voice, there’s like this whisper quality, but it’s not a small voice. It’s like this powerful whisper. There’s so much more that we haven’t heard yet that really excites me,” Ballerini said.
Her highest compliments, however, came from her coach.
“I thought it was flawless. Jaden, I don’t think you know how great you are. You could win this show for sure,” said Bublé.
Jayden was declared the winner by Bublé. Her father embraced her in a cutaway shot, saying “You did it! I’m so proud of you.”

Jadyn’s audition earlier this month was technically not her debut on the show, as she joined her dad on stage for a one-off duet of Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On” last year.
The Olesen family has become a staple in Lincoln’s local music scene. After finishing his stint, Bryan performed at a number of local concert venues. Jadyn is the lead vocalist for the popular local 80’s cover band AMFM.
