LFR crews responded to a house fire near 32nd and Holdrege around 3:30 this afternoon. Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says there was smoke and flames coming from the back of the home when they arrived.
“Crews were able to get a good stop. All occupants were able to evacuate, including one dogs and two cats. Lierman says it appears carelessly discarded smoking materials in a trash can sparked the fire that spread to the house.
“This is really important on a day like today,” Lierman says. “With the winds like this, it is a Red Flag Warning day, so any type of ignition source, like your smoking materials or sparks, can take off really quickly with the dry conditions and the wind.”
