LPD to Conduct ‘O’ Street Traffic Enforcement Project in March

By Tom Stanton Feb 28, 2025 | 12:18 PM

Lincoln Police will have extra officers patrolling ‘O’ Street in the month of March as part of traffic enforcement project targeting speeding and impaired driving.  “The initiative is funded through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office and reflects LPD’s commitment to improving roadway safety and responding to community concerns about speeding and noise violations, says Sergeant Sara Genoways, Traffic Unit Supervisor.

Last year LPD issued more than 4,000 speeding citations city wide along with 240 reckless driving citations and 36 for speeding exhibitions or racing.  Officers also ticketed 93 people for causing unnecessary noise with a motor vehicle.

“While these violations occur throughout Lincoln, “O” Street has been a frequent source of citizen concerns,” Genoways says.  “The Northeast Team aims to address these issues by increasing visibility and enforcement in this area. This initiative is designed to hold drivers accountable and create safer roads for everyone.”
