Clay County Homicide Suspect Dies

By Tom Stanton Feb 28, 2025 | 1:47 PM

The Nebraska State Patrol says the man who shot and killed his wife in their rural Harvard home one week ago has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  A patrol spokesman says 39-year-old Toby Gray died this morning at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln.

Gray had been in custody at the hospital since the shooting last Friday night.  A Nebraska State Patrol investigation determined that Gray had called Clay County 911 threatening harm against his wife, 35-year-old Heather Gray.

Deputies responded to the home where they located Heather Gray dead from multiple gunshot wounds and found a wounded Toby Gray outside the house.
