Elderly Woman in Critical Condition After South Lincoln Crash

By Tom Stanton Feb 24, 2025 | 12:08 PM

Lincoln Police say one person was critically injured in a two vehicle crash at 40th and Old Cheney Road just after 4:00 Friday afternoon.  “The preliminary investigation determined a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 79-year-old woman from Trenton, Nebraska, was traveling north on 40th through the intersection of Old Cheney when it collided with a Hyundai Elantra sedan,” Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says.

The car, driven by a 32-year-old Lincoln woman, had been traveling south on 40th Street and was 0turning left to go east on Old Cheney when it was struck by the pick-up. “The pickup left the road and struck a nearby fire hydrant.”

Thomas says the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for serious injuries. As of Sunday, she was in critical but stable condition.  The other driver was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash and Thomas says neither drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
