The Nebraska State Patrol says a trooper who was killed while responding to a crash Monday morning on I-80 between Ashland and Greenwood has been identified as 31-year-old Kyle McAcy. According to the preliminary investigation, McAcy was responding with other troopers to a crash on Interstate 80 near mile marker 424.
The NSP says during that response McAcy was outside his patrol unit and was struck by a snowplow. Troopers immediately rushed to his aid, but McAcy died at the scene. “Our NSP family is devastated today,” says Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Kyle was a dedicated trooper, a devoted public servant, and most importantly a good friend to many in Omaha and beyond. His loss is being felt by countless people. Please keep his family, friends, colleagues, and community in your hearts as they deal with this unimaginable loss.”
The Nebraska State Patrol has asked the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the crash investigation. Trooper McAcy’s family has been notified and NSP personnel are providing support at this time. McAcy was a ten-year veteran of the Nebraska State Patrol and had served in the Patrol Division, Carrier Enforcement and as a Crisis Negotiator. He was stationed in Omaha.
Gov. Pillen will direct flags to be flown at half-staff on the day of Trooper McAcy’s interment. That order will be released, pending the announcement of funeral arrangements.
