Nebraska women fall at Illinois despite 28 from Markowski

Despite a career-high tying 28 points from Alexis Markowski, the Nebraska women’s basketball team lost at Illinois Sunday, 77-68. The loss is the Huskers’ fifth in the last seven games.

Markowski shot 9-for-20 from the field and 9-for-11 from the foul line en route to her 28 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds. She was the only Husker in double digits. Britt Prince added nine points and eight assists. Adalia McKenzie led the Fighting Illini with 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting. Kendall Bostic added 19 points while Berry Wallace scored 15 and Genesis Bryant tallied 12.

Nebraska led 16-13 after the first quarter and clung to a 31-30 lead at half. But in the third quarter, Illinois pushed ahead, outscoring the Huskers 22-13 to lead 52-44 heading to the fourth. Nebraska shrunk the Illini lead to three three times before Illinois put the game away with a 5-0 run to build a 68-60 lead with 1:24 remaining.

Nebraska now prepares to face Oregon in the next-to-last home game of the season Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. on B-107.3.
