LPD Officer Recognized on SRO Appreciation Day

By Tom Stanton Feb 14, 2025 | 3:52 PM

Friday is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day.  SRO’s are vital in build relationships within school communities and partnering with school staff to create a safe, supportive learning environment for students. KLIN News went to Lincoln East on Friday morning to talk with SRO Scott Eveland.  He only began his duties in January, but says he likes the variety that the job offers.

“Whether you are cruising around the parking lot making sure kids are driving safe, or acting as an informal counselor and helping people work through some crisis in their life, or sometimes having to deal with calls that might result in some enforcement action.”

Eveland says the environment is much different then when he’s patrolling the streets of Lincoln.  “It’s like your in your own small town of 2,000 people and your the town cop for the small town.”  For students like Taylor Burkholder having an SRO brings a sense of comfort.

“I think it’s important to have an SRO just to have that safety factor, just knowing we’re safe at school with everything going on in the world.”
