Lincoln Police were called to 2nd and ‘O’ Street early Thursday morning on a report of a man who set a car on fire. Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says 41-year-old Jacob Leibel stole two beers from a convenience store around 5:00 a.m.
“He then approached a 2017 white Nissan Versa in a parking lot with two people sleeping inside. The victims said he punched the hood of the vehicle.” Thomas says they managed to get out of the vehicle before Leibel set it on fire.
“Officers contacted Leibel at a nearby business with the beers, a torch lighter and a machete in his possession. He was arrested and taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for 2nd degree arson, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, theft by shoplifting and disturbing the peace.
