LPD Issues Nearly Two Dozen Citations During Super Bowl DUI Campaign

By Tom Stanton Feb 14, 2025 | 8:22 AM

Lincoln Police have released the results of a traffic enforcement project over Super Bowl weekend that focused on impaired driving.  From February 7 through 9 additional officers worked overtime to identify and apprehend drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs.

During the enforcement effort, officers cited 22 people for driving under the influence.  Two of these drivers were further cited with driving with a passenger under the age of 16.  Officers wrote an additional 324 traffic citations on 209 total traffic stops.

Sergeant Sara Genoways is the Traffic Unit Supervisor and says the low number of DUI citations indicates that many area drivers make the choice to not drive while impaired.  “The Lincoln Police Department will continue to work with our road safety partners to show that driving impaired is not safe and it is not acceptable.”

The enforcement effort is made possible through a grant awarded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office, underscoring the Department’s commitment to promoting road safety.
