Nebraska women’s basketball snapped a three-game losing streak and picked up a critical road win as the Huskers downed No. 17 Maryland, 91-71, Thursday night in College Park, Md.
Nebraska’s grit was on display throughout. After falling into a 14-point hole in the first quarter, the Huskers fought their way back, led briefly in the second quarter and had the game tied at half, 45-45. Nebraska took over in the second half, leading by 14 through three quarters and dominating from there to victory. The Huskers owned the boards, outrebounding the Terrapins, 42-25. Nebraska also outscored Maryland in the paint, 40-30.
Alexis Markowski scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Huskers. Alberte Rimdal contributed 15 points off the bench, while Britt Prince added 13 points, Logan Nissley and Jess Petrie both scored 11 and Callin Hake tallied 10 in a balanced scoring night for Nebraska. The Terrapins were led by Shyanne Sellers’ 23 points, but no other Maryland player scored in double digits.
After a slow start, Nebraska shot a blistering 7-for-10 from behind the arc in the second half and made 59 percent of their shots in the second half overall. The win was the Huskers’ first over a top-17 foe on the road since 2013.
