If you’ve been longing for snow this winter your wait is almost over. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Lincoln area beginning at 6:00 Tuesday night. The warning will be in effect until 6 PM on Wednesday. According NWS snow will increase from west to east Tuesday night and continuing through Wednesday afternoon.
Most of the accumulation will occur between midnight and 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. There is a possibility of 4-6 inches of snow along the I-80 corridor from Omaha to Grand Island. The snow will be light and fluffy, making it easier to clear from driveways, sidewalks and streets.
Drivers are urged to use caution on their Wednesday morning commute. Retired UNL Climatologist Dr. Ken Dewey told Drive Time Lincoln Monday night that travel may be extremely difficult. “Wednesday morning is not going to be pleasant trying to travel in the area, and especially south. I would not head toward the Kansas City area” Dewey says.
The National Weather Service says 6-8 inches of snow is possible from Beatrice south to the Kansas and Missouri borders. In addition to the snow, wind chill temperatures will drop to 10 to 20 below zero both Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
