Would-Be Robber Leaves Lincoln Convenience Store Empty Handed

By Tom Stanton Feb 6, 2025 | 8:25 AM

Just after 1:00 this morning Lincoln Police were called to the U-Stop near 1st and West O Street for an attempted robbery.  “The clerk said that a man came in, claimed to have a handgun in his pocket and demanded money from the register,” says LPD Lt. Jason Wesch.

The employee refused and the man left empty handed. During the investigation, officers were able to get a suspect description from surveillance video of the incident and determine which direction he went after leaving the store in a small silver pickup truck.

LPD says around 3:30 a.m. officers observed a truck matching the vehicle in the video near 2nd and ‘M’ streets.  They contacted 57-year-old Cornelius Perkins who was wearing the same clothing seen in the video and took him into custody without incident.

Perkins was taken to the Lancaster County Jail for attempted robbery.
