Michigan built scored 18 straight points in the second quarter and never let Nebraska women’s basketball back into Thursday’s game at Pinnacle Bank Arena, as the Wolverines hammered the Huskers, 78-60. The loss was the second straight blowout loss sustained by Nebraska (16-7, 7-5 B1G), which lost big at Indiana Sunday.
Alexis Markowski led the Huskers with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Britt Prince added 10 points, but no other Husker scored more than six points. Michigan (16-7, 7-5 B1G) was led by Greta Kampschroeder, who scored 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting, all from behind the arc. Syla Swords added 15 while while Jordan Hobbs tallied 14. The Wolverines won the game with their three-point shooting, hitting 9-for-21 from three-point range while Nebraska drained just 3-of-15 attempts from three-point range.
Michigan led 15-14 with 38 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Wolverines scored the last three points of the first period, pushing the lead to 18-14 through one quarter. Michigan ran off the first 15 points of the second quarter as well, building the lead to 33-14 with 5:41 to go until halftime. The Wolverines’ 42-21 lead at halftime matched their largest advantage of the game. Nebraska tried to climb back into the contest by scoring the first eight points of the third quarter, but Michigan was able to hold the Huskers at arm’s length. The Wolverines led 58-42 through three quarters and cruised from there to victory.
