New Nebraska volleyball coach Dani Busboom-Kelly will be officially introduced as the new leader of the Huskers at an event at the Devaney Center Thursday at 2 p.m. The event is open to the public. Busboom-Kelly will also make her first public comments to the media Thursday after being named as the fourth-ever coach of Nebraska volleyball Wednesday, replacing John Cook.
Busboom-Kelly is a native of Cortland, Neb., and played high school volleyball at Freeman. After a decorated career for the Falcons, Busboom-Kelly came to Nebraska as a setter in 2003. After setting for the Huskers for three seasons, Busboom-Kelly moved to libero and helped Nebraska to its third-ever volleyball national championship. After a brief foray into private business, Busboom-Kelly decided to take up coaching. She began her career as an assistant at Tennessee, and also worked at Louisville. She returned to Nebraska as an assistant in 2012. She stayed on the Huskers staff for five years, helping lead Nebraska to a national championship in 2015. After the 2016 season, Busboom-Kelly moved on to take the Louisville head coaching job, leading the Cardinals to eight NCAA tournaments, three national semifinals and two national finals in her eight years.
Busboom-Kelly met with the Huskers last Thursday briefly. She and her family returned to Lincoln Wednesday to begin her transition to the Nebraska head coaching role.
