A promotion for the leader of the Nebraska Democratic Party.
On Sunday, State Party Chair Jane Kleeb was elected by national party officials to serve as the next president of the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC). She will be the chair of state party chairs, in layman’s terms.
The Nebraska Examiner reports — Kleeb will continue was the state party’s chair while she holds this new role. She’ll work closely with the newly elected Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin, the former leader of Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor.
“We could not be more excited and proud to have a Nebraskan lead the collective group of Democratic state parties, Chairs, Vice Chairs, and Executive Directors nationwide,” said Nebraska Democratic Party Executive Director Precious McKesson. “These are challenging times from attacks on DEI, birthright citizenship, the environment, and enacting tariff wars that will undoubtedly cause more suffering by Americans that will require leadership from DNC Chair Martin and ASDC President Kleeb.”
Kleeb has served as the state’s party chair since 2016, winning three re-election campaigns. She first broke onto the national political scene as the executive director of Young Democrats of America, later founding Bold Nebraska in 2010, which quickly became the primary opposition organization in the state against the proposed Keystone XL pipeline.
Nebraska Dems have touted a growing rank under Chair Kleeb’s leadership, saying Democrats elected up and down the ballot have grown from 500 in 2016 to over 900 in 2023.
Kleeb ran for the ASDC position on a platform of party reform. Listed on her campaign website, Kleeb is advocating for a more transparent party budget, better funding of state parties, paying of party chairs — many of which go unpaid, Kleeb included — and expanded outreach to young voters.
