Lincoln Police say two teenagers were taken into custody after a stolen gun was used by one of them to threaten LPS Students.  Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says it all began around 9:30 p.m. on January 30

“Officers were dispatched to a residence in central Lincoln on the report of a stolen black Springfield Armory 40SW XDS,” Thomas says.  The man told police he believed his 16-year-old son had taken it.

The next day officers received information that another teenager was in possession of the gun. “Officers found it inside the residence of a 14-year-old boy along with a magazine of .40 caliber ammo and a loaded polymer rifle magazine with .223 ammo,” Thomas says.

The 14-year-old was referred to the Youth Detention Center for possessing a stolen firearm and possession of a stolen firearm by a prohibited juvenile offender.  On Saturday, February 1, investigators became aware of several incidents where students reported receiving threatening Snapchat messages from the 16-year-old who referenced shooting them and two schools within Lincoln Public Schools.

Officers tracked him down at his home. “He resisted arrest while being taken into custody,” Thomas says.  He was later referred and booked on several charges, including possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited juvenile offender, terroristic threats and resisting arrest.

“There are no active threats toward the schools involved at this time,” Thomas says. “We urge students to continue to report any and all threats of violence to school officials and law enforcement immediately. Every report is taken seriously and will be investigated fully.”
