State leaders are reacting after the Trump Administration paused all federal grants and loans, sending nonprofits and government agencies scrambling to understand its impact. The directive was the latest step in Trump’s effort to overhaul the federal government.
“This action has left us actively working to fully understand the scope and impact on our federally sponsored research and other federally funded programs across our University of Nebraska System,” University of Nebraska President Dr. Jeffrey Gold said in an email to students, faculty and staff.
Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb spoke out against the action. “Republicans are literally cutting off funding for hungry kids and critical programs that veterans and seniors rely on in our communities. That is the state of play right now and not a peep from our federal delegation on the potential harm and confusion the Trump Administration is causing to our most vulnerable in Nebraska.”
Laura Strimple is Governor Jim Pillen’s Communications Director and issued this statement Tuesday afternoon. “President Trump promised the American people he would rein in federal spending that was out of step with their priorities. He is clearly making good on that promise. Our administration is working with state agencies and our federal partners to evaluate the impacts of the OMB memo and will provide additional input in the days and weeks ahead.”
