In front of a crowd of 9,772, the No. 25 Nebraska women’s basketball team fell just short in a 72-66 loss to No. 12 Ohio State Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The loss snaps the Huskers’ winning streak at five.
Nebraska was hampered by cold shooting, especially behind the arc as the Huskers hit just 38 percent of their shots from the field and just 26 percent of their shots from three-point range. The Buckeyes shot better, 50 percent from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc. Nebraska led 21-17 after one quarter and 38-36 at half before OSU took control in the third quarter, capturing a 61-55 lead heading into the fourth quarter, and held on from there to win.
The Huskers challenged Ohio State late with a 7-0 run to cut it to 65-64 OSU with two minutes to go, but a Taylor Thierry three-pointer increased the lead to four and gave the Buckeyes just enough breathing room to reel in the win.
Alexis Markowski led the Huskers with 18 points on 8-for-15 shooting. Callin Hake added 12 on 3-for-7 from behind the arc. The Buckeyes were led by Thierry with 23 points including five three-pointers. Cotie McMahon scored 15 with 10 rebounds, while Madison Greene added 11.
Nebraska will next face Purdue Thursday in West Lafayette, Ind. Tipoff is at 6 p.m with pregame coverage at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on B-107.3.
