A head-on crash east of Lincoln late Monday night sent both drivers to the hospital.  LSO Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says it happened on the bridge over Stevens Creek near 120th and O Street just before midnight.

LSO says the preliminary investigation shows a 2019 Dodge Caravan, driven by a 23-year-old Missouri man, was traveling eastbound on O Street when it collided head-on with a westbound 2004 Ford Escape, driven by a 34-year-old Omaha man.

Houchin says  a rescue squad from LFR and one from Southeast Fire and Rescue took both drivers to the hospital.  Both suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.   Both lanes of O Street were closed for approximately two hours while law enforcement and medical crews responded to the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing and LSO says their crash reconstruction team is working  to determine what happened during the crash, including whether seat belts were in use and whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.

“The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Southeast Fire & Rescue and Lincoln Fire & Rescue for their assistance during sub-zero temperatures at the scene,” Houchin says.
