A Lincoln man ended up in the hospital after a dispute over whether a van was borrowed or stolen. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says officers were called to 27th and ‘W’ Street around 4:30 Wednesday morning to investigate an assault and robbery.
The 47-year-old man told officers he had borrowed a red Chevy caravan from an acquaintance and was meeting up with him to return it. “When he got out of the van, the suspect produced a rusty machete and swung it at the victim, cutting his left elbow,” Thomas says.
The suspect also sprayed a can of mace in his face. “When he left with the vehicle, some of the victim’s belongings were still inside.” Thomas says the dispute apparently stemmed from a misunderstanding about who was to be in possession of the van.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402- 475-3600, report a tip online at lincolncrimestoppers.com or by downloading the free P3 app.
