LPD Officer Injured in T-Bone Crash

By Tom Stanton Jan 11, 2025 | 5:15 PM

A Lincoln Police officer is recovering following a two-vehicle crash Friday night in northwest Lincoln.  Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says the officer was driving with lights and sirens to assist another officer on a call around 10:30.

“The cruiser was traveling south on N. 27th Street as it approached the intersection with ‘W’ Street. A red sedan facing east on ‘W’ Street stopped at the stop sign before proceeding into the intersection, where the two vehicles collided,” Thomas says.

She says an off-duty LPD officer heard the crash as he was walking to his personal vehicle and then learned of the collision over the police radio. “He drove to the scene and found the officer involved immediately trying to render aid and extricate the other driver,”

Thomas says he relieved the officer and began assisting the other driver.  The 36-year-old Lincoln man was extricated from his vehicle by LFR and taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The involved officer was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information about the crash can call LPD’s non-emergency number at 402-441-6000 or, if you would like to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600
