A Mississippi man in town for his son’s funeral ended up in handcuffs early Saturday morning. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says officers responded to a disturbance at a home near 70th and Orchard around 6:00 Saturday morning and discovered 41-year-old Johnathan McCray had an extraditable warrant out of Tennessee.
“He was taken into custody and put in a cruiser,” Thomas says. “While transferring him to another cruiser, McCray spit in the face of an LPD officer.” He was taken to the Lancaster County Jail for assault with bodily fluid on an officer and booked on his warrant.
Thomas says McCray is the father of 20-year-old Johnathan McCray Jr., who was mistakenly shot to death by his 16-year-old brother outside an apartment complex on Christmas Eve.
