A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Lancaster County and areas to South and East of Lincoln.

The Warning will be in effect beginning at Noon Saturday and continue through Midnight Sunday night.

1-3-25 NWS Snow 6+

The first major winter storm of the season is expected to bring heavy mixed precipitation to the area.   Freezing drizzle will begin around midday Saturday and then mix with snow changing over to all snow as the storm moves through the area.  Ice accumulation should be light and mainly be a light glaze especially on untreated surfaces.

Significant snow accumulation of 4 to 10 inches is expected with the heaviest amounts to the South.  However strong winds will cause blowing and drifting and could reduce visibilities.   Winds could gust to 35 mph or more Sunday and travel could become very difficult and treacherous.

Colder air will move into the region and plunge temperature to near zero by early next week.  Wind chills well below zero are likely Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

The Friday afternoon detailed outlook information is available here 1-3-25 NWS PM DssPacket
