Key commits to Huskers

By Nate Rohr Dec 24, 2024 | 12:48 PM

Nebraska football received a key commitment from the transfer portal Tuesday when wide receiver Dane Key announced he would be transferring to Nebraska. Key formerly played for Kentucky, where he played under newly-hired wide receivers coach Daikel Shorts.

Key flourished in his single year under Shorts’ coaching, making 47 catches for 715 yards and two touchdowns. In his career, Key has 35 starts in 38 games with 126 catches for 1,870 yards and 14 touchdowns. Key selected Nebraska over Georgia and Mississippi State over other suitors.

A four-star coming out of high school in Lexington, Ky., Key’s father played linebacker for UK, and turned down Oregon, South Carolina and Michigan out of high school to play for the Wildcats.

Key likely ascends to the top of the depth chart upon joining the Huskers. At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, he plugs in as Nebraska’s No. 1 wide receiver and will likely start alongside another power conference transfer, Nyziah Hunter, a 6-for-2, 210-pound sophomore-to-be coming to NU from Cal. Key, meanwhile, has one more year remaining of college eligibility.
