Thieves Leave Empty Handed After Pair of Attempted ATM Thefts

By Tom Stanton Dec 23, 2024 | 12:32 PM

Lincoln Police say two attempted ATM thefts could be connected.   Just before 11:00 Saturday night officers responded to a burglary alarm at Cornhusker Bank near 34rd and Old Cheney.  “Surveillance video shows a silver Toyota Sienna minivan in the drive-through just after 10 p.m.” says Public Information Officer Erika Thomas.

She says the driver, wearing a white hat, white mask and silver puffy coat, looked at the ATM before driving off. “Just after 10:45 p.m., two suspects walked up to the ATM and used a key to open the hatch,” Thomas says.

One man was wearing a white Lakers hat, white mask, black hoodie with ‘Ecko’ on it, black pants and white shoes. The other man was wearing a blue hoodie, white mask, black Reebok coat, grey pants and black Puma slides. No money was taken.

About 30 minutes later, officers were called to an attempted burglary at the Cornhusker Bank near 84th and ‘O’ Street.  “An unknown man wearing dark clothing used a key to open the ATM door in the drive-through,” Thomas says.

Surveillance video shows the man being dropped off by a silver or grey van on Russwood Parkway before approaching the ATM that then turned west on ‘O’ Street. No money was taken in that attempt either.

Anyone with information on any of these attempted burglaries is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000. To remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 402-
