The holiday season can be especially difficult for those in the community who are grieving a loss. Roper & Sons Funeral Home invites those in the community who are working through a difficult time in life to it’s annual Blue Christmas service this Sunday, Dec. 22, at 4:00 p.m.
The Blue Christmas service provides a safe, compassionate space where individuals and families can openly acknowledge their grief, listen to words of hope, and find peace in calming music. It is an alternative to traditional gatherings and services at this time of year.
“Blue Christmas has a long tradition. It can be a loss of any kind. It can be a divorce, it could be children going on to college, empty nesters, and of course the death of a loved one. This is a place where people can experience all the joy, happiness, noise, lights, and everything of Christmas all around them, but in more of a gentle way where people they can lean on one another,” says Rebecca Shane with Roper & Sons.
Shane adds that many attendees make enduring connections at Blue Christmas through local grief groups that will be present. She says all in the community are welcome to attend.
The services will be conducted by Pastor Kerry O’Bryant, and held at their South Chapel located at 3950 Hohensee Drive in Lincoln.
