A 78-year-old Martell woman died following a single-vehicle crash near Southwest 29th and West Panama Road. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office received an Apple Alert about 11:30 Monday night. OnStar was able to connect the occupant, Sharon K. Gana, with dispatch.
Information relayed indicated her vehicle had struck something and there was airbag deployment and she was unable to get out of the vehicle. First responders from Hallam Fire, Courtland Fire and Lancaster County deputies responded to the scene near the Spring Branch Creek bridge. Gana was conscious and alert and after being extricated from the vehicle was transported to Bryan West by Star Care.
Gana was pronounced deceased shortly after 1:30 Tuesday morning.
The preliminary investigation indicates Gana was driving eastbound on Panama Road, drove into the north ditch, and struck a concrete structure that is part of the Spring Branch Creek Bridge. The lap and shoulder belt was in use and alcohol is not suspected in the crash.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s department is investigating the accident.
